Pearl M. Mosier, age 87, of 1601 Ohio Ave. SW, Huron, SD, died on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Welter Funeral Home. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 27, from 57 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home. The family will be present Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Pearl Madeline Mosier was born on December 30, 1920, to Christian Sorenson and Laura (Throndson) Sorenson on their family farm in Sisseton, South Dakota. She was the eighth of thirteen children. Pearl attended first through eighth grade in a rural school in Roberts County. She moved to Aberdeen in 1938, where she worked at Federal Bakery for six years. She returned home in 1944 to help the family. In 1947, she moved to Huron with several of her sisters. In addition to numerous part time jobs, she worked at Armour & Co. and at Valet Cleaners. Pearl met Earl Mosier at a church gospel meeting in 1951. They were married in a home wedding ceremony on March 15, 1955, after he returned from serving in the U.S. Army in Korea. They lived on the Mosier family farm west of Wolsey until November 1956, when they moved to Huron. In 1959, they moved to Wolsey. They built a new house in Wolsey in 1963, where they lived until moving south of Huron in May, 1992. During the years 1964 through 1968, the family traveled widely across the central US while Earl was employed as a welder on a tank construction crew. In May of 2006, they moved into a condominium in Huron. Their union was blessed with a son, Donald Earl Mosier, in July 1956. While living in Wolsey, Pearl worked part time as a cook at the Fawcett Hunting Lodge. She also baked and decorated cakes for birthdays, weddings, and other celebrations. In addition, she worked as a seamstress, making a variety of quilts both for sale and for family use. She recalls having made at least 114 Around the World quilts. She was also a great cook, baker, and canner. She shared her talents, making enormous quantities of pies, cookies, candy, cinnamon rolls, bread, pickles, and relish. Much of this was sold at home and at bake sales, ranging from Huron to Aberdeen. Wherever she went, her products were in high demand. After moving to Huron in 1992, woven rugs were added to the repertoire. Pearl cut uncounted pieces of material into strips, sewed them into longer strips, and wove them into rugs on a loom. She is survived by her husband Earl; her son Donald (Carol) Mosier; two beloved grandchildren: Carissa (Lucas) Gillmore and Danielle Mosier; three sisters: Alma McKelvey, Florence Miller, and Grace (Vernon) Molenaar; one brother in-law Lauren (Lila) Mosier, two sisters in-law: Bertha Sorenson and Geraldine Sorenson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Conrad, Lenard, Magnus, and Alvin; and five sisters: Agnes Williams, Cora Sorenson, Esther Sorenson, Alice Sorenson, and Ruby Sorenson; 2 sisters-in-law, Eloise Sorenson and Florence Sorenson; and 3 brothers-in-law, Loverne McKelvey, Richard Miller, and Burnett Williams.
