Pearl E. Hofer, age 94, of Huron, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 PM on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 with her family present from 5-7 PM at Welter Funeral Home.

Pearl Ella Hofer, daughter of Mike B. and Anna (Gross) Hofer, was born on March 21, 1924 at Carpenter, South Dakota. She attended a country school in Beadle County and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1942.

On February 17, 1943, Pearl married Melvin A. Hofer in Pipestone, MN. They farmed for over 40 years in the Carpenter-Willow Lake area. They enjoyed many visits with their little nieces and nephews and little friends who found excitement at the farm; they enjoyed the attention plus all the special treats from Pearl and Melvin.

In 1987, they retired and moved to Huron. They enjoyed the relaxed life, coming and going as they so desired. Pearl enjoyed shopping, reading and collecting cookbooks and embroidering dishtowels.

Pearl is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Richard Swanson of Huron; a niece, Vicky Walter of Sioux Falls who lived with Melvin and Pearl while growing up; a sister Winnie and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Florence and Elvira and 3 brothers-in-law, George Glanzer, Sam E. Walter and Ruben Hofer.
