Patrick Joseph (PJ) Coyle, age 82, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 1, 2014, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron, with burial at St. Martin's Cemetery in Huron and Military Honors by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation with the family present will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 31, with a scripture service to begin at 7:00 p.m., at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. PJ Coyle was born November 17, 1931 in Orient, SD to Cletus and Vera (Morris) Coyle. He graduated from Orient High School in 1950. PJ began his lifelong carreer with the Northwestern Bell/ US West Telephone Company in 1951, retiring in 1993, after 42 years of service. PJ joined the US Army in 1952 where he served in an anti-aircraft battery in Germany. He was honorably discharged on February 17, 1954. PJ married Patricia (Pat) Vondra on June 21, 1958 in Winner, SD. PJ was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish where he served as an usher and lector. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the 40 and 8, a lifetime member of the American Legion William Reaves Post #7, and the VFW Forrest McMullen Post #1776. PJ was very active in the Veterans Council Color Guard and transporting disabled veterans to medical appointments. PJ enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he cherished spending time with his family. Blessed for sharing in PJ's life are his wife of 56 years, Pat of Huron, SD; seven children: Kimberly Johnson of Eagle River, AK, Vicki (Brian) Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD, Brenda (Don) Mann of Huron, SD, Marty Coyle of Huron, SD, Neil (Tammy) Coyle of Cambridge, MN, Matthew (Becky) Coyle of Delano, MN, and Kristi (Joel) Henness of Tucson, AZ; ten grandchildren: Jennifer (Chad) Wagenaar, Mandy (Tim) Redder, Kristina Jones, Megan and Joshua Coyle, Shelby Johnson, Lukas Nelson, Abby and Joseph Coyle, and Konnor Henness; five great-grandchildren: Damien and Madisen Redder, Katelyn and Amelia Wagenaar, and Zander Johnson; two sisters, Margaret Joyce of Brookfield, WI and Jane (Ed) McGuire of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Tom (Carol) Coyle of Mesquite, TX; sisters-in-law: Sharon Coyle of Belle Fourche, SD and Betty English of Winner, SD; three brothers-in-law: Ron Nordell of Omaha, NE, Jack (Lois) Vondra of Bridgewater, SD, and Ray (Jean) Vondra of Rapid City, SD; and many nieces and nephews. PJ was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jim, Maurice, And Dennis; sister, Ann Nordell; brothers-in-law, Jerry Joyce, Don Sporrer, Charles Vondra, Lawrence (Bud) Vondra, and Leo English; sisters-in-law Cay Coyle, Dottie Coyle, Dorothy Coyle, and Mary Sporrer.
