Pamela Mae (Thomas) Winegar was born August 16, 1951, to Audrey and James Thomas in Huron, SD. As a child, she attended Custer Township Country School from Kindergarten through 8th grade. She then attended and graduated from Huron High School in 1969. Pam received her teaching degree from Huron College in 1974. Later, she earned her Master's Degree in Teaching and Learning from Southwest Minnesota State in 2005.
On August 24, 1973, Pam married Scott Winegar in Huron, SD. They were just twenty-six days shy from their 50th wedding anniversary. To this union, three wonderful children were born; Taunya, Jim, and Lisa. Adventures took them to Deer Lodge, MT, Clear Lake, SD, Billingham, MN, and Sioux Falls, SD where Pam continued her teaching career. As their kids grew older, they returned to Huron to raise them closer to family as this was very important to Pam.
Pam began her teaching career at St. Martin's Catholic School in Huron, continued in Billingham and Sioux Falls, before finishing her thirty-seven year teaching career with the Huron Public School System. Over twenty of those years were spent teaching at Riverside Colony, where she is still cherished and remembered as one of the most influential teachers and friend.
Her passion for gardening led to many amazing gardens throughout the years. With the help of her grandkids, one year she grew seven gardens which spanned over two acres. She loved planting, nurturing, and harvesting her produce with all of her grandchildren. Her love of flowers as well as vegetables blossomed as well.
After retirement, she was able to spend a great deal of time with her eight grandkids. From reading to the babies, baking, crafting, and attending their sporting events; she loved it all. Her heart grew every day she spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Scott Winegar of Huron, her three children, Taunya Martin and children Zoe, Charlie, Tommie, and Jimmie of Huron, SD, Jim (Kristi) Winegar and children Riley and Carli of Huron, SD, and Lisa (Corey) Baruth and children Henry and Sterling of Alpena, SD, siblings, Claire Thomas of Huron, SD, Bob (Becky) Thomas of Huron, SD, Cindy Thomas of Tulare, SD, Janey (Pat) Cronin of Huron, SD, Betty Thomas of Huron, SD, and Jay (Beth Shaffner) Thomas of Huron, SD, in-laws, Terry Winegar of Rapid City, SD, Randy (Jackie) Winegar of Huron, SD, and Connie Winegar of Huron, SD.
