Owen Amick, age 96, of Woonsocket, died Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 10, 2014 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8 pm Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Welter Funeral Home; or Friday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Owen George Amick was born on June 21, 1918 in rural Sanborn County to Elmer and Clara (Kruse) Amick. He attended country school through the Eighth Grade. Owen then joined the family business of farming. Owen married Bessie Burnside on July 5, 1941 in Nebraska. The couple made their home just one mile north of where Owen was born. He loved farming and all the changes that came with each season. He was still packing silage at the age of 94. Owen loved to travel, taking several trips every year, including an annual trip to Michigan to see family. He and Bessie were able to see a lot of the United States and parts of Canada on their many trips. Owen also was an accomplished fabricator, building and fixing a lot of the regularly used equipment on the farm. Owen is survived by his brother, Roland (Cherry) Amick of Woonsocket; two nieces, Suzanne (Greg) Erwin of Woonsocket, Sheryl (Joe) Turner of Woonsocket; four great nieces and nephews, Kyle Turner, Athena Turner, Jon (Victoria) Erwin, Stephanie (Phillip) Goettsch; and 3 great great nieces and nephews. Owen was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bessie on May 6, 2010; nephew, Kevin Amick; and an infant sister, Anna.
