Otis Pierson, age 78, of 579 2nd St. SW, Huron, died Saturday, December 11, 2004, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His Graveside Rites will be at 2:30 PM Tuesday, December 14, at Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Rev. David Koch officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the graveside rites at the mausoleum. Otis Dwain Pierson was born on September 15, 1925, to Elmer and Hilma (Anderson) Pierson at Wolsey. He was the youngest of five children. His father died when he was three years old. He attended rural grade school in the Wolsey area and Wolsey High School. On September 27, 1952, Otis married Lucille Escherhausen in Miller. They were married for 52 years. They farmed several years at Wolsey and in 1956, they moved to Miler where he owned and operated an A & W Root Beer Drive Inn for a number of years. He also worked for the Miller Police Department for a brief time. In the late 60s he started the Miller/Pierson Greenhouse and operated that with his wife and son till 1997 when he sold the business to his son and his wife. He owned and operated gas stations in Pierre and Miller and also and apartment building in Pierre. In the middle 80s they moved to Wolsey and moved the greenhouse business there. In the early 90s they moved to Huron where he owned and operated the Huron Mobile Home Estates and an apartment building. In the late 90s he sold the trailer court and they moved to an apartment building. His grandson Tyler was the highlight of his life. He looked forward to always seeing and playing with him. Otis and Lucille went for drives sometimes meeting Ron, Carla and Tyler for a picnic, which he enjoyed. Papa got much joy taking Tyler for rides in the wagon with the garden tractor through the fairgrounds. Even though he no longer worked in the greenhouse he enjoyed dropping in and seeing how things were going. He is survived by his wife Lucille of Huron; one son, Ron (Carla) Pierson of Yale; one grandson, Tyler Dwain Pierson of Yale; one step-granddaughter Christina Mendel of Yale; three step-grandsons, Clare Mendel of Huron, Ernest Mendel of Sioux Falls and Shaun (Jennifer) Mendel of Hartford; two step-great grandchildren; Haley and Haden Mendel; one sister, Vera (Francis) Peak of Hollandale, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
