Omer Pearson, age 73, of 853 13th St. SW, Huron, SD, died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at his home.

His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at the Congregational United Church of Christ with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m.; or Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.

Omer Elroy Pearson was born on February 2, 1936, to Albin and Alma (Bunde) Pearson on the family farm in Hamlin County near Hayti, SD. He attended schools in the Hayti area.

On December 9, 1958, he entered the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1960.

He moved to Huron in 1968 where he worked for Huron Steel Structures; Huron Culvert; Asphalt Paving; and for Northwest Pipe Fittings, Inc. for 19 years where he retired as Vice President in 2004.

On December 17, 1972, Omer married Mary Bittner in Huron.

His family, especially his grandchildren, was the joy of his life and he enjoyed spending time with them. His interests included fishing, hunting, and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Huron; 4 children, Brett (Tina) Pearson of Huron, Angela (Todd) Brueske of Woonsocket, Lorrie (Jay) Sherer of Minnesota, and Brad Pearson of Sioux Falls; 6 grandchildren, Kaitlin Brueske, Tyler Brueske, Boston Pearson, Alex Pearson, Bobbi Sherer, and Megan Sherer; 2 brothers, Jerrald (Karen) Pearson of Oakville, WA, and Lynn Pearson of Castlewood, SD; and 4 sisters, Lilace Kastien of Lake Norden, Arlene Larson of Lake Norden, Joyce Amerson of Rapid City, and Audrey (Leo) Stormo of Watertown; mother-in-law, Bertha Bittner of Huron; brother-in-law, Darrell (Barb) Bittner of Loveland, CO; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers, Darvin, Rollie, Howard, Roger, Arlyn, and Earl; 2 sisters, Marion and Nona; father-in-law, Ervin Bittner; and brother-in-law, Eugene Bittner.
