Olivia W. Beerman, age 89, of 222 9th St SE, Huron, died Sunday, August 29, 2004, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 2, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Donald Imming officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 to 9:00 PM Wednesday at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Thursday morning. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening followed by a Catholic Daughters of America Rosary at the Welter Funeral Home. Olivia Beerman was born Olivia W. Greschke on September 6, 1914, to William and Elizabeth (Palt) Greschke at rural Wessington, SD. She attended elementary school at St. Theresa Catholic School at Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1934. In 1938, she graduated from St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing in Aberdeen with a degree as a registered nurse. On September 26, 1941, Olivia married William Albert Beerman at St. Martin Catholic Church in Huron. She worked as a registered nurse in Huron for 39 years - a short period of time at the Sprague Hospital and most of her career at St. Johns Hospital, retiring in September of 1978. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and the Altar Society, Degree of Honor, and Catholic Daughters of America. She loved every moment that she could spend with her grandchildren, and also enjoyed baking, canning, playing cards, and taking photographs of her family. She is survived by 6 children, Camille (Chris) Christie of Sparks, NV, Tom (Sandy) Beerman of Huron, Jim (Renae) Beerman of Thousand Palms, CA, Paul (Rolayne) Beerman of Atwater, MN, Mary (Tom) Bell of Brookings, and Nancy (David) Engebretson of Meckling, SD; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Tootie (K.O.) Kauth of Huron; and 2 sisters-in-law, Margaret Greschke of Huron, and Lela Greschke of Apache Junction, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill on October 11, 1995; 1 daughter, Paulette Leeman; 4 brothers, Francis, Edward, Martin, and Vincent Greschke; 2 sisters, Genevieve Madson, and Marie Schmalz; and 2 brothers-in-law, Lewis Madson, and Harvey Schmalz.
