Olga Peterson, age 97, of Huron, SD, died Monday, December 7, 2009, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m.; or Thursday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church.
Olga Peterson was born Olga Eugenia Anderson, daughter of John W. and Ida E. (Ljungrenn) Anderson, on June 14, 1912, at Little Rock, Ark. At the age of 5, following the death of her father, she moved with her mother and two sisters to Hitchcock, SD. Her mother married Carl Lundquist. Olga attended school in Hitchcock.
On November 1, 1935, Olga married Einar L. Peterson in Redfield, SD.
They farmed in the Frankfurt and Hitchcock area until 1942 when they moved to Cavour; then to a farm 4 miles east and a half-mile north of Huron from 1948-1995. Olga moved to the Huron Courtyard Apartments in 1997 where she lived until becoming a resident of SunQuest Healthcare Center in 2003.
She was a member of American Lutheran Church; and Huron Area Senior Center. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and playing Bingo.
She is survived by 1 son, Gary (Virginia) Peterson of Huron; 1 daughter, Joyce Marvel of Huron; 1 sister, Ida Ringheimer of Huron, 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; 1 daughter-in-law, Nancy Penneranda of Huron; 1 sister-in-law, Paula Lundquist of Huron; 2 sons-in-law, Bob Thomas of Huron, and Glen (Nancy) Anderson of De Smet.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Einar on August 31, 1997; 1 son, Dennis Peterson; 2 daughters, Marilyn Anderson and Connie Thomas; 2 grandsons, Rockne Anderson and Danny Anderson; 1 brother, Arvid; and 3 sisters, Edna, Thelma, and Anne.
