Norman Schley, age 68, of 541 4th St. NE, Huron, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at his home. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 22, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Christopher Ascher and Rev. Dale Sattgast officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 PM Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Saturday afternoon. There will be a Devotional Service at 6:30 PM Friday evening at the funeral home with the family present until 9:00 PM. Norman Dale Schley was born on December 17, 1936, to Sylvester Jim and Belva (Kelley) Schley in rural Gary, SD. He attended country schools, and after completion of his formal education, he worked at various farms, the Lane Garage in Lane, SD, Armour & Company for many years, and for Denny Larson. On October 16, 1959, Norm married Maxine Hotchkiss at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. Over the years his many interests included camping, fishing, hunting, joking, dancing, traveling with the James Valley Riding Club on wagon train trips, listening to the Fiddlers, and helping family and friends in any way that he could. He is survived by 3 daughters, Myrna (Mike) Leachman of Huron, Karen (Russell) Donovan of Huron, and Twila (Terry) Gascoigne of Huron; 1 son, Rodney (Jane) Schley of Huron; 9 grandchildren, Jessica Leachman, Josh Leachman, Jason Donovan, Cody Donovan, Jacob Donovan, Nicholas Schley, Elizabeth Schley, Tiffany Gascoigne, and Shauna Gascoigne, all of Huron; 1 great grandchild, Hailey Hiles; 4 brothers, Beryl (Evelyn) Schley of Paxico, KS, Paul (Mary) Schley of Alma, KS, Jim (JoAnn) Schley of Hitchcock, and Kenneth (Donna) Schley of Chicago, IL; 1 sister, Dolores (Bill) Wilson of Altus, OK; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine on July 5, 2002; 1 granddaughter, Kayla Marie Donovan on April 20, 1992; and 1 sister, Dorthey Schley.
