Obituary

Norman E. Langbehn, age 94 of Wolsey, SD, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at his home in Wolsey, SD.

His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey, SD with burial at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Wolsey.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Norman Eugene Langbehn, the son of Edward E. and Lillian A. (Syring) Langbehn, was born on February 23, 1922 on the homestead farm in Beadle County, SD.  Norman was born and raised in Wolsey, SD.  He attended the Hartland Township Country School and graduated from Wolsey High School.  Norman farmed for many years.  He was also a John Deere Dealer from 1958 until 1964.  Norman served as a county commissioner on the Beadle County Commission for 30 years retiring in 1988.  He also served as President of the State County Commissioners Association.

Norman married Helen Meyer on November 25, 1944 in Wolsey, SD where they made their home.

Norman was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey where he served as an elder and Chairman of the Congregation. Norman was baptized on March 19, 1922 and confirmed on November 6, 1938.  He was also a member of the Farmer's Union and a 4-H Leader for many years. Norman loved to play cards and go dancing.

Grateful for having shared in Norman's life are his wife, Helen of Wolsey; his six children, Craig (Betty) Langbehn of Griffin, GA, Douglas (Lori) Langbehn of Peachtree City, GA, Linda (Alan) Kathner of Faulkton, SD, Barbara (David) Moser of Huron, SD, Jeff (Darcie) Langbehn of Wolsey, SD, and Todd (Ann) Langbehn of Aberdeen, SD; 14 grandchildren, Michael (Kym) Langbehn, Tracy and Travis Langbehn, Emily (BJ) Sellers, Jason Langbehn, Casey (Selena) Langbehn, Lincoln Kathner, Tammy (Jeff) Gilbert, Kristi (Joel) Vetter, Sawyer and Carter Langbehn, and Hannah, Max, and Sophie Langbehn; 10 great-grandchildren, Mackeon, Chase, and Kassidy Langbehn, Nora and Alice Sellers, Vaughn Kathner, Lexy and Josh Gilbert, and Taylor and Austin Vetter; two brothers, James (Edith) Langbehn of Cornelius, OR, and Jerry Langbehn of Thermopolis WY; two sisters, Marilyn Mansch, Rogers, AR, and Carma McGrath of Spearfish, SD; brother-in-law, Ewald Kohlmeyer of Forest Grove, OR; and several nieces and nephews.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lillian; sister, Verda Kohlmeyer; sister-in-law, Della Langbehn; and brothers-in-law, Vern Mansch and Tom McGrath
