Norman Kasperson, age 89, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, died Tuesday evening, May 23, 2006, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, May 26, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call this Thursday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Friday morning. The family will be present from 7:30 to 9:00 PM this Thursday evening at the funeral home. Norman Oliver Kasperson was born on March 18, 1917, to Ole and Ingeborg (Olson) Kasperson, at Montrose, SD. The family moved to Iroquois and then Sinai where Norman grew up. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended school through the eighth grade after which he worked on the family farm. On December 26, 1943, Norman was united in marriage to Hazel Damsgaard. To this union a son, Elmer, was born. Norman and Hazel were able to spend 58 years of marriage together. Norman and Hazel made their home farming outside of Sinai. In 1946 they purchased the Implement Shop in Sinai and moved into town. In 1960 they moved to Huron and purchased the Ford Garage which they operated as Kasperson Ford until their retirement in 1972. During their retirement years they spent several winters in Arizona. Norman was a member of American Lutheran Church, State Automobile Association, Sinai Bank board of directors, and Kiwanis. His many interests included fixing and making things, golfing, fishing, and playing cards. He took special joy in his family and watching his grandchildren grow up. One of his favorite sayings was it doesnt take a big man to be a good man. He is survived by his son, Elmer (Annette) Kasperson of Lake Elmo, MN; 3 grandchildren, Molly Kasperson, Erik Kasperson, and Lisa Kasperson; 1 brother, Rev. Robert (Ruth) Kasperson of Geneva, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel on October 30, 2002; 2 sisters, Hilda and Margaret; and 6 brothers, Chris, George, Ted, Elmer, Martin, and Hjalmer.
