Norma Nelson, age 92, of rural Carpenter died on September 17, 2014 at her daughters home. Her memorial service will be 2:00 pm Monday, September 22, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Carpenter with a burial at the Pitrodie Cemetery. Memorial Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Norma (Eggers) Nelson was born May 27, 1922 to Walter and Saddie Marie (Holdredge) Eggers in rural Clark County, South Dakota. Norma's mother passed away when Norma was in her teens. Norma's father, Walter then married Grace Leonard in 1955. Norma was united in marriage to Normen C. Nelson on May 9, 1942. To this union 12 children were born of which one was an infant son who died at birth. They lived on a farm in Beadle County for the first years of their marriage moving to the family farm in Clark County in 1945. Norma helped on the farm until she moved to Huron in 1968. While in Huron she was employed for a number of years at both the Violet Tschetter and Huron Nursing Homes as well as the kitchen at Huron College. Throughout her life she was able to do some extensive traveling, hitting all 50 states with her travel companion and special friend Carl Kretzschmar. She also enjoyed socializing at West Park or the Plains with all her coffee friends, playing cards or bingo, and going to Bales on Saturday mornings. She loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their various activities. She enjoyed making quilts and going around to all the various arts and crafts shows. She especially liked the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. She tried to make a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed many different flowers and working in her flower gardens. She was a member of the UMW and United Methodist Church in Carpenter and the Foster Homemakers Extension Club. Grateful for having shared her life are her children; Nick (Lynn) Nelson of Iroquois, SD, Eric (Connie) Nelson of Yale, SD, Harriet (Allen) Kretzschmar of Raymond, SD, Nancy (Richard) Vig of Carpenter, SD, Fergus (Kim) Nelson both of Carpenter, SD, Sylvia (Garry Hanson) Holmstrom of Clark, SD, and Warren (Cindy) Nelson of Hesperia, CA; daughter-in-law, Dianne Grismer; son-in-law, Dennis Davis; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; stepmother Grace; her husband Normen C. Nelson; special friend, Carl Kretzschmar; children, an infant son at birth, Kenneth "K.O.", Jeanette, Marcus Nelson and Ginger Davis; two daughter-in-laws, Coe and Norma; and a grandson, Buddy Vig.
