Norma Hines, age 85, of Huron, SD, formerly of Wessington Springs area, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 12, at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Friday morning one hour prior to the service. Norma Hines was born Norma Darlene Palmer, daughter of Alfred and Verna (McCLoud) Palmer, on March 13, 1928, on the family farm near Wessington Springs, SD. She attended country school through the 8th grade. On October 12, 1942, Norma married Ernest Richard Hines in Butte, NE. They lived all of their married life in the Wessington Springs area. Norma was a homemaker and mother raising her children. She often volunteered her time and services to those who were elderly or needy. She attended Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking and sharing meals with others. Norma was well known for her delicious pies and doughnuts. On November 19, 2012, Norma became a resident of Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. She is survived by 8 children, Connie Richards (Mark) of Oak Harbor, WA, Betty Phinney of Spearfish, Mable Dahl (Dewey) of Spearfish, Maxine Richmond (Charles) of Athol, ID, Ernest C. Hines (Debra) of Mitchell, Joanna Surrell (Larry) of Spearfish, Philip Hines (Charlotte) of Huron, and James Hines (Kathy) of Huron; 20 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Tom Bard (Alyce), and David Erickson; 7 sisters, Velma Jacobe (Ed), Beverly Seaworth (Roger), Mary Lou Stallard, Vivian Weldon, Verna Hanson (Randall), Donna Hallan (Archie), and Carol Geyer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest on March 3, 2001; 4 brothers, Richard "Dicky" Erickson, Glen Palmer, Don Palmer, and Lavern Palmer; 1 sister, Bonnie Jean Palmer.
