Norma Gilchrist, age 74, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at her home surrounded by family, after a short battle with cancer. . A Joint Memorial Service for Norma and her husband, Joel, will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Faith Alive Community Church (Formerly First United Methodist Church) in Huron.

Norma Gilchrist was born Norma Jean Owens on May 11, 1949 to Forrest and Cecil (Ward) Owens in Huron, SD. She attended school in Huron.

On February 14, 1968 Norma married the love of her life, Joel C. Gilchrist.

She worked as a SD State Heath Nurse Aide up until she and her friend Sharon started a house cleaning business. She last worked as a house cleaner for Castle Sweeper and Keeper.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.

Norma is survived by her sons Joel B.(Rhonda) Gilchrist of Winner, SD and Jeff Gilchrist of Huron, SD;  5 grandchildren James Gilchrist, Austin (Jade) Gilchrist, Avery Gilchrist, Aaron Gilchrist, Brianna Gilchrist; 2 great-grandchildren Declan Gilchrist and Radec Gilchrist; sisters Marlin (Erich) Saeger of Cherokee, IA, Sheila Wurtz of Huron, SD, Kay (Bob) Rensvold of Rapid City, SD, Leila (Tim) Schwartz of Huron, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by husband Joel and her parents Forrest and Cecil Owens and many aunts and uncles.

She was loved dearly and will be missed forever.
