Obituary

Nina Effie Bailey, age 94, of Andover, MN,  formerly of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, June 09, 2020 at Arbor Oaks Assisted Living in Andover, MN under hospice care.

A private family service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at the Welter Funeral Home with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.

Nina Effie Taylor, the daughter of Harold and Nina (Voelker) Taylor, was born on August 16, 1925 in Tripp County, SD.  She graduated from High School, then received a Bachelor's degree in Education from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD.

Effie married Clifford Junior Bailey on August 29, 1948 at the Witten First Baptist Church in Witten, South Dakota. Effie worked as a school teacher in a one room School house in Witten, SD from 1948 until 1952.  As a school teacher, Effie would ride her horse to work every day. In November 1953, the couple moved to Huron.

Effie was an active a member of the First Baptist Church in Huron for many years. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and putting puzzles together.  Effie also loved taking part in trivia contests and always seemed to have the right answer.  She and her husband, Cliff enjoyed volunteering at Camp Judson in Keystone, SD.  Effie was very active at the camp and served as the arts and crafts director for many years. Effie loved to whistle and sing while taking walks.  Over the years, she amassed a large and varied frog collection.

Effie is survived by four sons: Everett (Grace) Bailey of Columbus, GA, Mark (Lisa) Bailey of Andover, MN, Dan (Diane) Bailey of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Rex (Caryl) Bailey of Richmond, IN; 7 grandchildren: Meredith (Ian), Ross, Kevyn, Ashley, Andrew (Joseph), Emma, and Brennyn; two great-grandchildren; Cullen and Brody; sister-in-law, Dorothy Taylor of Oklahoma City, OK; and several nieces and nephews.

Effie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cliff in 2003, two brothers, and three sisters.
