Nicholas D. Schley, age 29, of Huron, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. His funeral service will be live-streamed at www.mtcalvaryhuron.org/livestream . Private burial will take place at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 3-6 PM on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Welter Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will begin at 6 PM at the funeral home.
Nicholas Dale Schley was born on March 16, 1991 to parents Rodney and Jane (Schroeder) Schley in Huron. He was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He was a cub scout and boy scout and was the last troop member of Troop 6. He was also in the Youth Area Bowling Association. He graduated from Huron High School in 2009. Nick attended Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown. He graduated with a degree in Welding. During college, he worked for Angus Palm in Watertown. Nick worked at Terex Manufacturing since 2011 as a welder.
Nick married Hailey Russell on October 1, 2016 in Huron. Nick was very proud of the fact that he adopted Hailey's son, Aden, on March 5, 2018.
Nick enjoyed many outdoor activities and was very involved with snowmobiling. He was a member of the Great Plains Snowtrailers Club and enjoyed snowmobiling in the Black Hills. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, car races, recreational shooting, fishing, camping, and golfing. He was a volunteer firefighter, EMT and was a member of the Beadle County Dive Team. He enjoyed helping others, especially as a firefighter. He enjoyed playing cards and marbles with friends and family. He was always somebody who could be counted on. He was a great friend with a great smile and laugh.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman and Maxine Schley and grandfather Larry Schroeder.
Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife, Hailey and son Aden of Huron; parents, Rodney and Jane Schley of Huron; sister Elizabeth Schley of Sioux Falls; grandmother, Donna Schroeder of Huron; mother-in-law, Shelly Russell of Coleridge, NE, father-in-law, Jon Russell of Belden, NE; sister-in-law, Savanah (Ben Capatch) Russell of Belden, NE; nephew Lane Capatch; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
