Nadine Matthews, age 82, of Huron, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Avantara in Huron. Her Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday afternoon. A private family burial will be held at Wessington Cemetery.

Nadine Elinor Major was born on September 30, 1941 in Wessington, South Dakota to parents Guy and Gladys (Keller) Major. She grew up on the farm, attending Wessington schools, graduating from Wessington High School. She attended Northern State College for a brief time.

Nadine married Donald "Moose" Matthews on August 6, 1961, in Wessington. They made their home in Wessington for a short time before moving to Huron in 1965. Nadine and Moose started working at The Red Arrow Bar and were fortunate to purchase the bar in March of 1984. Moose passed away in 1993. Nadine sold The Red Arrow Bar in 1996. She took a night off and started working at the Sportsmen's Bar for the next 25 plus years, retiring in October 2022 at 81 years old. She also worked in the office at Edney Distributing for many years. When she wasn't working, Nadine enjoyed reading and playing cards. She loved music and dancing. Always a social butterfly, Nadine loved all her many friends she made during her bartending career.

She is survived by her children, Julie Matthews of Huron, Rhonda (Tom) Mitzel of Owensboro, KY, and Dale (Sonya) Matthews of Waverly, IA; her granddaughter, Kelsey Fuehrer; her 3 great-grandchildren, Jackson Fuehrer, Stellen Standefer, and Cecillia Standefer; her sisters, Neree Lowenstein of Hillsboro, OR, and Madelle (Lyle) Brown of Tulare; her sisters-in-law, Mary Major of Wessington, Arlene Matthews of Wessington, and Edith Matthews of California; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.

She was preceded by her parents; her husband, Moose; and her brother Dick Major.
