Obituary

Myrtle Stafford, age 88, of Huron, died Sunday, August 15, 2010, at Huron SunQuest Healthcare Center.

Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 20, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m.; or Friday morning one hour prior to the service.

Myrtle Dahl, the daughter of A.G. and Bertha Dahl, was born on February 4, 1922, in Watson, MN. Myrtle moved to Dawson, MN, as a child where she attended school and graduated from Dawson High School. Myrtle had worked as a bookeeper at the Farmers Co-op Elevator and as a telephone operator. She then moved to Minneapolis, MN, where she was employed at Pilsbury. Myrtle married Raymond Stafford on January 21, 1946, in Minneapolis, MN. The couple lived in Huron, SD, where Myrtle was a homemaker raising her three daughters.

Myrtle was a member of the American Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing Bridge, and was an excellent cook and baker. Myrtle was very active in the church and helped quilt many mission quilts.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her 3 daughters: Mary Jo (Herman) Eggena of Watertown, SD, Nancy (Miguel) Penaranda of Huron, SD, and Joan (Curt) Nettinga of Hot Springs, SD; 7 grandchildren: Sherry (Jim) Rosheim, Raymond (Karleen) Eggena, Joel (Melissa) Eggena, John Eggena, Timothy Eggena, Eric (Sarah) Peterson, and Kimberly (Darin Roth) Peterson; 2 step-grandchildren: Kristen Nettinga and Ryan Nettinga; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ella Lindseth of Dawson MN, and Dorothy Bakken of Bemidji, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond in 1985; her granddaughter, Amy Meyers; son-in-law Dennis L. Peterson; 4 brothers, Bert, Irvin, Lloyd and Morris Dahl; and 7 sisters: Inga Johnson, Gladys Body, Viola Haugesag, Beatrice Dahl, Betty Melom, Norma Ruud, and Hazel Swanson.
