Obituary

Myrna Fast, age 69, of Yale, SD, died Saturday August 25, 2012, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Her funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at St. Patrick Cemetery at Cavour, SD. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a scripture service at 6:30 p.m.; or Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Myrna Fast was born Myrna Kay Wattier, daughter of Frederick and Lola (Jensen) Wattier, on March 3, 1943, in Crandall, SD. She attended Conde School through her junior year in high school transferring to Bristol (SD) High School where she graduated in 1960. On June 15, 1960, Myrna married Robert Fast at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bristol. From this union 4 children were born, and there are some interesting notes surrounding the births: all four children were born one year apart, all in the month of June, all within the range of June 8th through the 20th, with Myrna and Robert's marriage date on June 15. The couple lived on a farm near Iroquois until 1969. In 1970 they moved to a farm near Yale which they owned and operated until moving into Yale in 1998. During those years on the farm Myrna not only helped Robert with the farm but also worked as a cook at Yale Middle School; was a member of the Iroquois School Board for 9 years; worked part time at Avenue of Flowers in Huron for many years; and the Yale Post Office from July 1984 until her retirement in 2001. Myrna was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish; HRMC Auxiliary; RSVP at Huron Area Senior Center; and Yale Lunch Bunch. Her many interests included sewing, baking, cooking, canning, making cakes, quilting, writing poetry, playing cards and board games, arranging flowers from her home, gardening, and watching birds. She also maintained an active letter correspondence with her family and many friends. She was a born-prankster and nothing thrilled her more than to have fun with people and watch their reactions. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Robert of Yale, SD; 4 children, Wanda (Dave) Skeide of Webster, Wayne (Cheri) Fast of Yale, Wanita (Roger) Smith of Sioux Falls, and William (Mary Jane) Fast of Yale; 9 grandchildren, Matthew Kvernevig, Nicholas (Alaina) Kvernevig, Erica Fast, Michael (Chantelle) Fast, Mitchell Smith, Andrew Smith, Brady Fast, Branden Fast, and Billie Jo Fast; 5 great grandchildren, Briana Kvernevig, Brailey Walls, Nathan Kvernevig, Chloe Kvernevig, and Avery Kvernevig; 2 brothers, Lowell "Butch" (Linda) Wattier of Spearfish, SD, and Mark Wattier of Conde, SD; 3 sisters, Linda Busch of Montevideo, MN, Gloria Horter of Montevideo, MN, and Marie (Chuck) Flemming of Volin, SD. Myrna was preceded in death by her parents; and a son-in-law, Brian Kvernevig.
