Myrna Baruth, age 65, of rural Alpena, SD, died Friday, October 7, 2011, at Huron SunQuest Healthcare Center. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at Welter Funeral Home followed by a private burial service. Visitation will be Friday, October 14, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the service. Myrna Baruth, daughter of Harlowe and Elma (Gaulke) Baruth, was born on November 26, 1945, in Huron, SD. She grew up on the Baruth family farm near Alpena and graduated from Alpena High School in 1963. She received her BA degree from Huron College in 1967, and her Master's degree in education from Northern State University in Aberdeen in 1972. She taught Junior High math at Wagner, SD, from 1967-1984. She was also an adviser for the cheerleading squad, drill team, and pep club. In May 1984, Myrna moved back to the family farm to help her parents. She also worked part time as a library clerk at Huron Public Library from 1988 to the present; and part time at Alpena School as a librarian from August 1989 to May 2002. She enjoyed attending basketball games and track meets in which her nephews participated; and enjoyed watching her great nephews and great nieces grow up. Her other interests included reading, sewing, and spending time with her 2 special animal friends, Koko the cat and Chipper the dog. She is survived by her brother, Roger (Tena) Baruth of Alpena, SD; 5 nephews, Mick (Jody) Baruth and their children, Damon, Stuart and Courtney, all of Sioux Falls, SD; Rick (Erica) Baruth and their children Jared and Adam, all of De Soto, KS; Rob (Melissa) Baruth and their children, Jaycee, Addyson, McKenzie and Sam, all of Alpena, SD; Corey (Lisa) Baruth of Alpena, SD; and Randy (Meghan) Baruth of Salt Lake City, UT. Myrna was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; an infant sister, Fern; and 9 uncles and aunts.
