Myra C. Schmitt, age 88, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 18, 2022 at Welter Funeral Home with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 2-4 PM on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Welter Funeral Home.

Myra Chloe "Mikie" was born on February 9, 1934 to parents Charles and Mabel (Appenzeller) Miller in Lane, South Dakota. Myra grew up in the Lane area, graduating from Lane High School.

Myra married Melvin Schmitt on January 18, 1953 in Huron. Myra and Mel made their home in Huron.

Myra's career was in the finance department for the City of Huron for over 25 years where she worked as a steno clerk. After retirement, Myra worked for Nancy Balvin as a receptionist for 9 years.

In her retirement, she loved to go to Flandreau with her best friend, Betty. She also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and golf on television. Myra loved to make every holiday special, especially Christmas with her baking, attention to details, devotion and love.  Lake Byron has always held wonderful times of family and friends getting together.  Myra had a great love of watching her family enjoy the lake and soaking up the sun's rays on those glorious summer days.

Myra was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and American Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her sons, Doug (Judy) Schmitt of Arizona, Scott Schmitt of Huron, and Michael (Darielle) Schmitt of Huron; 4 grandchildren, Mandy (Jeremy) Meltebarger of Arizona, Ryan (Breanna) Schmitt of Arizona, Kaitlin Schmitt of Watertown, and Annaliese Schmitt of Huron; 4 great-grandchildren, Jaycey, Hailey, Kyleya Meltebarger and Jackson Schmitt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mel in 1992, and her siblings, Ardith Endahl, Lavonne Armstrong, and Arlo Miller.
