Obituary

Myra Decker, age 68, of rural Huron, SD, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, at Mt. Olivet Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-7 p.m.; or Tuesday morning one hour prior to the service.

Myra Decker was born Myra Jean Phillips, daughter of Pearl Henry Phillips and Esther (Gogolin) Phillips, on September 16, 1941, in Huron, SD. The family was living east of Wessington at the time of her birth, and she attended country school nearby and graduated from Wolsey High School in 1959. She then attended the College of Commerce in Huron for 2 years. In 1961, she began working at F&M Bank in Huron.

On April 20, 1963, Myra married Jerry Decker in Huron. Myra continued working at the bank until 1964; then raised her family until returning to the work force in 1980 at Heartland Cable/BMI Cable Vision in Huron; and in the mid 1990's she became the sexton/secretary at Restlawn Memory Gardens until the time of her death.

Myra was a member of Mt. Olivet Church. She was a Sunday school junior superintendent and teacher at the church; church organist; director of many childrens church Christmas Programs; and active with 4-H.

Her grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, wood crafts, and music.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Huron; 1 son, Jeff (Teresa) Decker of Huron; 2 daughters, Lisa (David) Balster of Huron, and Denise (Darrel) Rennich of Bruce, SD; 7 grandchildren, Tyson Decker, Tierra Decker, Dylan Balster, Devyn Balster, Brittany Rennich, Ashley Rennich, and Bethany Rennich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant daughter, Tonja Jean Decker in 1968.
