Monte was born on June 29, 1950, to Kenneth and Olga (Stierley) Huizenga in Huron. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey, SD. Monte went to school at Payne Country School thru the 2nd grade until it closed. He then attended Hitchcock Schools, graduating from Hitchcock High School in 1968. He then went to Omaha for a year to study thermodynamics. After a year of studying, he returned to Hitchcock to farm with his dad and brother, Clayton, for many years. Later, Monte farmed with the help and support of his four sons. Monte proudly served as Board President for the Hitchcock Fire Department since 1992.

Monte married Jan Simon on November 26, 1977. They lived near Hitchcock, SD, on the farm for over 48 years. Monte and Jan had 4 sons: Matthew (Melissa) Huizenga, of Platte, SD, Michael (Tara) Huizenga, of Hitchcock, SD, Bradley (Jeana) Huizenga, of Zell, SD, & Brian (Megan) Huizenga, of Wessington, SD.

Monte was blessed with 11 grandkids: Isabell, Rachel, Rebecca, Paisley, Lane, Westin, Piper, Tate Monte, Grace, Braiden, Burton.

Monte will be remembered for his love for his family, including his children and grandchildren. He loved watching the grandkids, as well as his own kids, play sports, as they always knew he was in the stands. Monte loved spending time with his family and his love for farming. He will be remembered for his music taste as well, as he loved gospel. Monte will be dearly missed by all, but we know he is in a better place.

He is survived by his wife Jan, 4 sons, grandkids, brother Greg (Kay), and sister-in-law Cheri Carlson. Monte was preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Ken; his siblings Clayton, Marilyn, Ken (Pickle), Carol, Marlyn, and Kirk.
