Monte N. Boetel, age 80, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Huron Regional Medical Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present will be from 2-4 P.M., on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. A Scripture Service will begin at 4 P.M. at the funeral home on Sunday.
Monte Noel Boetel was born on January 30, 1943 in Huron, South Dakota to parents Alfred and Irma (Ulrich) Boetel. He grew up in the Yale area, attending Yale and Iroquois country schools before graduating from Iroquois High School in 1961. Monte attended South Dakota State University studying mechanical engineering. He started his career with Land O' Lakes Dairy before working at Schoenfelder Implement as a diesel mechanic. He moved to Case Implement in 1976. Monte worked at Pioneer Garage in Highmore before returning to Titan Equipment in Huron, retiring in 2009.
Monte married Rosella Heer at St. Martin's Catholic Church on April 8, 1967. They made their home in Huron, raising their children, Craig and Brenda.
In his free time, Monte enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapshooting. He enjoyed working with kids and taught hunter safety course as well as being a Cub and Boy Scout Leader when his children were growing up. He loved woodworking. He was a life member of Amateur Trapshooting Association and Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. In the last couple decades, you likely saw his infectious smile at the South Dakota State Fair when he was volunteering his time driving golf carts.
He is survived by his wife, Rosella of Huron; his children, Craig (Melanie) Boetel of Brandon, SD, and Brenda (Scott Espanet) Boetel of River Falls, WI; 3 grandchildren, Gage, Remington and Neva Espanet; his brother, Jim (Punky) Boetel of Madison, SD and Mesa, AZ; his sister, Rachel (David) Peskey of Huron; brother and sister-in-law; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded by his parents, Alfred and Irma and several other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
