Obituary

Mildred Ulsh, age 72, of Marion, SD, and formerly of Huron and Iroquois, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Sioux Valley Hospital at Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 12, at Trinity United Methodist Church at Iroquois with Rev. Kris Larson and Rev. Steven Behrens officiating. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery at Iroquois. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Saturday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Mildred Ulsh was born Mildred Irene Geiman on September 20, 1932, to Daniel 'Christian' and Leona (Maxey) Geiman on a farm in Kingsbury County near Iroquois, SD. She attended grade school in Osceola, SD, then at Engleking country school, Blue country school, and Samelson country school. Over the years, Mildred worked as a housekeeper and babysitter for various families in the area, and also worked in housekeeping at a hotel, plus other numerous part-time positions. She moved to Bancroft, SD, where she lived for a few years, and then went to live with her parents until their deaths. In April of 1996, she became a resident of Hilltop Nursing Home at Parker, SD, where she resided for 4 years, then moved to the Tieszen Memorial Home at Marion, SD, where she lived for the last 4 years of her life. On June 26, 1955, Mildred married Thomas Ulsh at Osceola. The couple lived in Huron for a few years. She was a past member of Trinity United Methodist Church at Iroquois, and presently a member of the United Methodist Church at Marion. Her many interests included painting by number on velvet posters, painting decorative designs on pillow cases, reading, baking, doing word-search puzzles, bingo, and watching the television game show, "The Price is Right." She is survived by 1 daughter, Carolyn 'Loretta' (Don) Pierce of Marion, SD; 3 grandchildren, Lisa Pierce, Lacey Pierce, and Morgan Pierce, all of Marion; 3 brothers, Rev. Don (Bernita) Geiman of Scotland, SD, Delbert Geiman of De Smet, SD, and Dean (June) Geiman of Katy, TX; 5 sisters, LaVonne (Holly) Samelson of Iroquois, SD, Eunice (Delmer) Currier of Monroe, IA, Carol Miller of Bancroft, SD, Shirley (Glen) Weeks of Moorhead, MN, and Sandra (Chilo) Pina of Huron, SD; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
