Obituary

Mildred G. Scott, age 89, of Wessington, SD, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at the Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller, SD.

Her Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Wessington, with burial at Wessington Cemetery in Wessington.

Her Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, November 5, at Welter Funeral Home; or, one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Mildred G. Syring the daughter of Theodore and Jenny (Phinney) Syring, was born on May 12, 1921 in rural Wessington Township. She graduated from Sand Creek High School. Mildred married Earl Scott on February 10, 1941, in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple lived for one year in Corvallis, OR, before returning to Wessington, SD, in 1942 to start their family and begin farming.

Mildred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wessington, and the First Presbyterian Ladies Aide. Mildred was also a member of the Sand Creek Club. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, and knitting. Mildred loved to fish and camp on the Missouri River at South Whitlock. She truly loved her trips to the river and was known to spend time there throughout the summer.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her son, Mark (Peg) Scott of Wessington, SD; daughter, Sharon (Darwin) Johansen of Worthington, MN; 5 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and her nephew, Jim (Ruthann) Major, of Wessington, SD.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Earl in July of this year; her grandchild, Kristine Johansen; and sister, Floris Major.
