Mildred Peoples, age 88, of Big Stone City, SD, formerly of Huron died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Ortonville Area Health Services, in Ortonville, MN.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at the Huron Baptist Church in Huron, with burial at 2:00p.m. Thursday, at the De Smet Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 1, from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD, with the family present from 5-7 p.m. or one hour prior to service at the church on Thursday.

Mildred Strickler the daughter of Lloyd and Viola (Rhoades) Strickler was born on July 19, 1920, south of Iroquois, SD. She recieved her education from country schools in the Iroquois area. Mildred married Elmer C. Peoples on June 7, 1942, in St. Louis, MO. She was a homemaker. Mildred lived in the Huron area from 1942 until moving to Big Stone City, SD, in 2007.

Mildred was a member of the Huron Baptist Church since 1990. Mildred served as church elder and trustee for a number of years. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, reading books, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her grandkids. Mildred was a lover of good music and was a member of the Rhythm Ramblers.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Delmer (Janell) Peoples, Lake Preston, SD; 2 daughters, Denise (David) Muldoon, Big Stone City, SD, and Joanne Flores, Knoxville, TN; 4 grandchildren, John and Brian Dostal, and Laura (Joe Frevert) and Matt (Ashley Bunting) Muldoon; her brother Ken (Eileen) Strickler, Iroquois, SD; and sister, Helen Strickler, Huron, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elmer in 1987; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
