Mildred Haugen, age 89, of Abernathy, Texas, and formerly of the Alpena area, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at her home in Texas. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, May 26, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Senner officiating. Burial will be at Eventide Cemetery at Woonsocket. Friends may call from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. this Wednesday evening with the family present at the Welter Funeral Home, and Thursday morning until time of service at the funeral home. Mildred Haugen was born Mildred Marie Heller on August 6, 1915, to Robert and Emma (Krueger) Heller at Madison, SD. She moved with her family when she was a young girl to Alpena, and attended school in the Lane, SD, area. She then moved with her sister, Margaret, to Sioux Falls, where Mildred worked as a housekeeper for various families. On September 22, 1935, Mildred married Otto Haugen at the family home in Alpena. The couple lived in Woonsocket for many years. In 1999, she moved to Texas along with her daughter, Marvyl. She was a past member of Bethany Lutheran Church at Woonsocket, and the Lutheran Church in Leveland, TX. Mildreds many interests included sewing, reading poetry, stamp and coin collecting, traveling, flower gardening, putting puzzles together, and crossword puzzles. She is survived by 2 sons, Gordon (Ruby) Haugen of Smyer, TX, and Lawrence (Fran) Haugen of Merrill, WI; 2 daughters, One (Bill) Roberts of Elkhart, IN, and Marvyl (Keith) Rank of Abernathy, TX; 19 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; and 1 daughter-in-law, Ella Haugen of Merrill, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto on July 30, 1991; an infant daughter, Roberta on July 15, 1939; 1 son, Robert on June 21, 1993; 1 sister, Margaret Roberts on May 6, 1994; and 1 brother-in-law, Jesse Roberts.
