Michelle Shelly DeVries, age 46, of Sioux Falls, and formerly of Huron, died Monday, November 6, 2006, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Friday, November 10, at American Lutheran Church in Huron with Revs. Steven Brandsrud and Duane Larson officiating. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Friday afternoon. The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. Michelle Rae DeVries was born on August 26, 1960, to Gene and Dorace (Krutzfeldt) DeVries in Huron, SD. She received her education in Huron schools and graduated from Huron High School in 1978. She attended SDSU at Brookings and graduated in 1983 with a B.A. degree in Home Economics. Following graduation she returned to Huron and worked at the Beadle County Extension Office in the area of home economics. She worked at JC Pennys in the office and during this same period of time also attended Northwest College of Commerce in Huron where she studied accounting. She then transferred to JC Pennys in Sioux Falls, and later worked for the Sioux Falls School System in their main administrative office where she directed the school lunch program. She then was employed at Good Samaritan Village Nursing Home in Sioux Falls in the payroll department. She left employment there and worked for Retailers Company processing credit card applications for Daytons and Target Stores. She resumed working at Good Samaritan Village and handled administrative payroll, budgeting, billing, insurance, and Medicare applications. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and attended/assisted Sunday services at Good Samaritan Village. Shelly was a very giving person and enjoyed buying gifts for family, friends, and residents at the nursing home. Whenever she traveled she always sent family and friends a postcard, and greeting cards were given on a regular basis to her many friends on all occasions. She enjoyed attending her nieces and nephews school activities and events. Shelly had a very extensive collection of Boyds Collectable Bears. She was involved in the annual Silent Auction fundraising campaign at Good Samaritan Village. She is survived by her parents, Gene and Dorace DeVries of Cavour; 3 sisters, Vicki Vining (Robert Peterson) of Fedora, SD, Nikki (Robert) Baatz of Lester, IA, and Tanya DeVries of Cavour; 1 brother, Jeff (Kimberly) DeVries of Cavour; 6 nieces, Hillary Vining, Hanna Peterson, LaToya Waddell, Ellie DeVries, Elise DeVries, and Elaina DeVries; 5 nephews, Dustin Vining, Josh (Lisa) Waddell, Ethan DeVries, Emerson DeVries, and Elliott DeVries; and 3 great nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Melissa DeVries; both sets of grandparents; and 1 brother-in-law, Keith Vining.
