Melvin Frey, age 68, of 835 Dakota Ave. South, Huron, died Sunday, November 7, 2004, at his home. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 11, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Lew Christensen officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Thursday morning. Melvin Eugene Frey was born on January 11, 1936, to Herman and Clara (Madsen) Frey at Watertown, SD. He attended school at Faulkton and Redfield. On November 15, 1958, Melvin married Donene Henrichsen at Pierre, SD. On December 9, 1958, Melvin entered the U.S. Army. During his time in the service he completed his GED. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1960. He was employed at Spink County Dairies and Cass Clay. He moved to Huron in 1970 and was a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed reading, collecting Denver Broncos and John Deere memorabilia. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren, and was affectionately known by his grandkids as "Bucky' and "Papa". He is survived by his wife, Donene of Huron; 4 children, Michelle (Darwin) Maas of Huron, Gary (Laura) Frey of Steamboat Springs, CO, Lori Frey and partner Paula Anderson of Broomfield, CO, and Scott (Kailene) Frey of Huron; 5 grandchildren, Ehren, Amy, Megan, and Michael Maas, and Cameron Frey; 6 brothers, Don (Sally) Frey of Vallejo, CA, Erwin (Colleen) Frey of Sioux Falls, Harlan (Linda) Frey of Arlington, TX, Bill Frey of Corpus Christi, TX, Charles (Rosalie) Frey of Williamsburg, VA, and Larry (Janice) Frey of Huron; five sisters, Marilyn Frey of Huron, Clarice (Delvin) Jacobson of Black Hawk, Arlys (Lawrence) Schlimgen of Worthington, MN, Anita Baum of Wenatchee, WA, and Kathi Frey of Huron; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
