Melva J. Green, age 96, of Huron, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025 at Avera Brady Health & Rehab in Mitchell. A memorial service to celebrate Melva's life will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church in Huron with inurnment following at Riverside Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Melva Jane Fenner was born January 29, 1929 to Mial A. Fenner and A. Dorothy (Hein) Fenner at Glendale, CA. She returned to South Dakota with her parents at 18 months of age. She became a Christian and was baptized at age 13. She was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1942 where she taught Sunday School and was a choir member for many years. She graduated from Huron Public Schools in 1946. Melva attended Huron College and Sioux City Business School. She worked for Standard Oil and the Beadle County Electric Cooperative. Later she worked in the Helen Buchanan School and was the Executive Secretary for the Beadle-Jerauld Chapter of the American Red Cross. Most recently, she was a "pink lady" waiting room volunteer at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
She married Wayne A. Green in 1961 and they resided in Huron. They had three daughters, Susan (Eldon) Olthoff, Linda (Brit) Ball and Carol (Jeff) Jorgensen.
She is survived by her daughters and four grandsons, Keegan, Hayden and Landon Jorgensen and Jonathan (Isabella) Olthoff. Melva was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Memorials may be directed to the Huron First Baptist Church.
