Obituary

Melissa Sprecher, age 34, of rural Virgil, died Friday, November 11, 2005, at rural Virgil as a result of a car accident. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 15, at St. Johns Lutheran Church at Wolsey with Rev. L. Scott Spiehs officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon until 4:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home or 6:30 to 8:30 PM Monday evening at St. Johns Lutheran Church at Wolsey, or Tuesday morning prior to the service at the church. There will be a Prayer Service at 8:00 PM Monday at the church with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. The family prefers memorials. Melissa Kaye Kahre was born on February 1, 1971, to Daniel and Paulette (Langbehn) Kahre at Huron, SD. She grew up and received her education at Wolsey graduating from Wolsey High School in 1989. She then attended college at SDSU-Brookings for 1 year, then Huron University for 1 year. On October 10, 1999, Melissa married Lyle Sprecher at Wolsey. The couple made their home on a farm mile west of Virgil, SD. Melissa worked for a time at the Adjustment Training Center in Huron, and in 1995, began working for the U.S. Postal System at the Dakota Central Processing and Distribution Facility in Huron as a mail-processing clerk. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church at Wolsey, and was the current secretary for the American Postal Workers Union. Melissa was very active in the lives of her family, especially her childrens activities. She loved the game of softball and played the game for many years, plus she was a coach for youth softball teams. She also was an avid football fan of the USD Coyotes and the Green Bay Packers. She is survived by her husband, Lyle of rural Virgil; 3 daughters, Hilary, Taylor, and Cortney, all at home; her parents; Daniel and Paulette Kahre of Wolsey; 2 brothers, Chad (Kristie) Kahre of Wolsey, and Bret (Saren) Kahre of Wolsey; her grandmother, Elaine Kahre of Wolsey; her mother/father-in-law, Harold and Yvonne Sprecher of Huron; 2 nephews, Jayden Kahre and Jacob Kahre; 1 niece, Kaitlyn Kahre; several aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Herbert Kahre; her maternal grandparents, Ralph and Josephine Langbehn; and 1 aunt, Mary Ann Mehlberg.
