Melba R. Sorben, age 93, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at Avantara in Huron surrounded by her children. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. A private family burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Huron. 

Melba Rose Sorben was born on October 4, 1932 to Rufus and Alma (Pawlowski) Tollefson in Woonsocket, South Dakota. She attended school in Woonsocket. While attending a dance at the Rainbow Ballroom in Lane, she met Edwin Sorben. They were married on January 3, 1951.

Melba was all about family. While raising her family, she could be found in the kitchen making wonderful homemade bread, desserts, or delicious pot roast. If not in the kitchen, she was out in the garden tending to her beautiful flowers. Melba was always willing to lend a hand whenever she was asked, whether it be babysitting grandkids or helping with house or yardwork. For many years, Melba worked at Schnabel Daycare and helped with Sunday School at First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her three children, Debbie (Ken) Lindblad, Jan (Craig) Cronin, and Paul (Traci) Sorben, all of Huron; six grandchildren, Bobbi Sorenson, Teresa Lindblad, Scott (Krista) Cronin, Christina (Joe) Brock, Stephanie (Matt) Metzger, and Alex (Jenny) Sorben; and several great-grandchildren; she is also survived by her brother-in-law, Joel (Patsy) Sorben of Wessington Springs; and several extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; infant daughter, Laurie; her parents; her siblings, Herbert, Lyle and Laverne Tollefson, Beulah Johnson and Pauline Miiler.
