Maxine Marie Schnabel, age 83, of Lehi, UT, and formerly of Huron, died on January 19, 2009 at her home in Utah.

Her memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron. Burial of her cremated remains will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Maxine Schnabel was born Maxine Marie Cable on June 16, 1925, to John and Sarah Cable at Wessington, SD. She attended elementary schools and 7th and 8th grade at Rogers School, and graduated from Sand Creek High School. She attended summer school for six weeks at Huron College and received a two-year teaching certificate. She taught at Broadland Elementary School from 1943 to 1944.

She married Myles Keith Remme in September of 1945 and moved to Huron. In 1953 they moved to Vancouver, Washington and then to Portland, Oregon.

She moved back to Huron in 1972. She married Elmer Schnabel in October of 1973. They were members of the Congregational Church.

Maxine had various jobs as a waitress. She also worked for the State of Oregon unemployment and claims office and as a bus driver for 10 years in Huron. She was a security guard at the Huron Airport from 1973 to 1979. She was also a home health care giver.

She is survived by her two daughters, Nyle Jean Short, and Roxanne Kaye Ketter; one son Dale Keith Remme; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Myles, her sisters Evelyn Schnabel, Florence King, Janet Fillmore, two twin granddaughters, her son Stephen Remme, and her husband Elmer Schnabel.
