Obituary

Maxine E. Marshall, age 90, of Huron and formerly of Hitchcock, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Avantara-Huron. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Hitchcock United Methodist Church with burial at Altoona Cemetery in Hitchcock. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Friday, September 24, 2021, with family present from 5-7 PM at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday. A prayer service will begin at 6:30 PM on Friday evening at the funeral home.

Maxine Elaine Taylor was born on January 12, 1931 in Redfield, South Dakota to parents D. Glenn and L. Lucile (Strang) Taylor. Maxine attended grade school in Iowa and graduated from high school in Redfield in 1948.

She married Glen Marshall on January 12, 1949 in Wolsey, SD. Maxine and Glen made their home in Redfield, Denver and Hitchcock, where they lived for over 55 years. Maxine and Glen raised their four boys on the family farm where she was a devoted farmwife and mother. She enjoyed quilting and made graduation quilts for all her grandchildren and baby quilts for all her great-grandbabies. She loved to care for her flowers in her yard and playing cards with friends and family. She enjoyed doing genealogy for the family. Maxine was the Redfield Press Correspondent for 17 years. She belonged to the Hitchcock United Methodist Church, Red Hat Club and Tops Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Glen in 2015; sister-in-law Virginia Taylor, brothers and sisters-in-law, Laurence, Carl, Clyde, Lester, Lyle and Keith Marshall, Vera Woodard, Ellen LeGrand, Reva Maher, Norma Maher, Jessie Houck, Marie Malone, and Lenore Schamp.

She is survived by her sons, Richard (April) Marshall of Hitchcock, Gary (Lynne) Marshall of Huron, Terry (Dawn) Marshall of Hitchcock, and Michael Marshall of Huron; 9 grandchildren, David (Dawn) Marshall, Rachelle (Michael) Munson, Lori (Terry) Wieting, Kristi (Jim) Winegar, Jodi Marshall, Jayme (Fiancé Tetiana Pasha) Marshall, Marissa Marshall, Taylor (Sarah Dreyer) Marshall, and Daniel Marshall; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Taylor of Wisconsin and Jerry (Diane) Taylor of Sioux City, IA; her best friend, Darlene Schwab; and many nieces and nephews.
