Obituary

Maxine Green, age 92, of Huron, died Sunday, January 2, 2011, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, January 5, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-8 pm Tuesday, January 4, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with family present from 6-8 pm; or one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Maxine D. Green was born on February 7, 1918 to Hans and Laura (Theirolf) Anderson in Huron. She graduated from Huron High School in 1936. Maxine worked for The Huron Daily Plainsman from 1939 to 1946, during which she also worked for 3 years at Smith Jewelry.

Maxine married Dale Green on March 5, 1946 at First United Methodist Church in Huron.

Maxine had been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1926, serving as a church teacher and chairman of a circle for 4 years. She received a special membership pin from the United Methodist Women in 1969. Maxine was a member of the Colfax Rebekah Lodge for 50 years, Royal Neighbors of America, and a Charter member of the Huron Lioness club, where she served as president form 1978-1979. She received the first Lioness of the Year award and received the LCIF award in 1985. She was a life long resident of Huron. She enjoyed bird watching, her flower garden, and spending time with her friends and family. She will be missed, but loved for years to come.

Maxine is survived by her son, Keith (Sandy) Green of Aberdeen, SD; granddaughter Melissa Green of Fort Myers, FL; 4 step grandchildren, Trina (Steve) Volk of Vancouver, WA, Jeromy (Dawn) Thorstenson, Casey Thorstenson, and Trenton (Stephanie) Lunstrum, all of Aberdeen; 5 great step grandchildren; brother-in-law, Don (Lynn) Green of Huron; sisters-in-law, Marion Hatfield of CA, Marlys Green of Huron, Melva Green of Huron, Marilyn Anderson of KS; many nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dale in 2006; and brothers, Gordon and Glen.
