Maxine Biever, age 77, of 1251 Arizona Ave. SW, Huron, SD, formerly of Iroquois, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, at American Lutheran Church with burial at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery West in Carthage.

Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 at American Lutheran Church with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.; or Tuesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family will be available to greet friends in the main lobby at SunQuest Village, 1251 Arizona Ave. SW, Huron, to greet friends from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, December 13, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, December 14; or by calling 350-0863 or 352-5224.

Maxine Biever was born Maxine Joyce Nelson on October 16, 1931, to Lionel and Olga (Johnson) Nelson in Huron, SD. She grew up in Carthage, SD, where she graduated from high school in 1948. She was confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Carthage.

Following graduation from high school she took correspondence courses as a secretary and then worked for Northwestern Public Service.

On January 10, 1955, Maxine married Robert Biever at St. Martin Catholic Church in Huron.

Bob and Maxine started their Standard Oil business in Carthage in 1956. They moved to Iroquois in 1959 and started Biever Bulk. Maxine worked in the family business until the time of her death.

Maxine's first passion is her love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, old movies, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, family pictures and history.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Huron; 3 children, Gary (Joan) Biever of Iroquois, Craig (Becky) Biever of Huron, and Diane (Steve) Soderman of Iroquois; 14 grandchildren, Ryan Biever, Randy Papka, Clint Biever, Cherri Hofer, Kari Biever, Michelle Zepher, Danielle Martin, Josh Biever, Jordon Biever, Ryan Soderman, Megan Soderman, Seth Soderman, Caleb Soderman, and Candra Soderman; 12 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Don Nelson of Huron, and Jerry (JoAnne) Nelson of Huron; 6 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Shirley Salter of Lake Preston, Janice (Al) Lentz of Huron, Alice (David) Ellis of Houston, TX, Wayne (Darlene) Biever of Pine City, MN, Larry (Helen) Biever of Fredericksburg, VA, and Kathleen Biever of Iroquois; and an uncle, Norman Johnson of Lake Preston; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; 4 brothers-in-law, John Biever, Jerry Biever, Bill Biever, and Gordon Salter.
