Obituary

Maxie L. Cook, age 96 of Huron, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron, with entombment at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum in Huron. Visitation with the family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 26, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m.; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Maxie L. White, the daughter of John and Helen (Allen) White, was born on September 27, 1918 in Kings City, MO. She attended school and graduated from High School. Maxie attended college at Northwestern College in Maryville, MO and received her teaching degree. On January 19, 1946, Maxie married Donald Cook at Kansas City, MO. They made their home in King City, MO where they owned and operated Cook's Feed and Seed Store. In 1962 they moved to Huron where they built the Cook Seed and Feed Plant and a downtown warehouse that they operated until the time of Don's death. Maxie also worked for Raven Industries for six years. Maxie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron and the Church Circle. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Fortnightly, Sertoma, the Red Hats, and two Bridge clubs. Maxie enjoyed golfing and playing Bridge. Maxie loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Grateful for having shared in Maxie's life are her daughter, Connie (Charles) Rowen of Huron; four grandchildren, Chad Russell Rowen of Prescott, AZ, Rebecca (Dr. Tyler) Trigg of Scottsdale, AZ, Michael (Delilah) Greve of Sioux Falls, SD and Jenifer (Mark) Dexter of Manchester, NH; five great grandchildren: Braedon Dunn, Elizabeth Jo Dexter, Cody Dexter, Hunter Charles Trigg, and Brandt Greve; brother-in-law, Lloyd Cook of King City, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Maxie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don in 2003; her son Sidney Thomas Cook on November 6, 2001; daughter-in-law, Barb Cook; brother, Kenneth White; sister, Isabelle Gilson; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
