October 14, 1931 – April 26, 2016
Max "Doc" Kludt, age 84, of Watertown, SD, formerly of Huron, SD, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Estelline Nursing and Care Center in Estelline, SD.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Earlville Cemetery rural Wessington Springs.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 28 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m.; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Max R. Kludt, the son of Robert and Elsie (Zeeck) Kludt, was born on October 14, 1931 in Carthage, SD. He attended the Carthage school through the 8th grade. Doc served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. Doc worked as a pressman for the Huron Daily Plainsman for 39 years before retiring in 1996. After Retirement, Doc drove school bus for the Huron School District.
Doc met the love of his life, Lila Mae Teveldal at a dance in 1956 and they were married on February 17, 1957 in Alpena, SD. Doc and Lila lived in Huron until 2010 when they moved to Watertown, SD to be closer to their sons.
Doc was a member of American Lutheran Church in Huron and American Legion William Reaves Post #7 where he served as the post commander. He was also a member of the 40 et 8. Doc enjoyed golfing, hunting pheasants, fishing, playing cards and bowling. Doc and Lila also enjoyed dancing and spending time with their family and friends. Doc loved baseball and played amateur baseball for the town of Alpena. He was an avid gardener and loved tending to his yard and garden, so much so that he was given an award for the yard of the month.
Grateful for having shared in Doc's life are his four children, Mike (Doreen) Kludt of Watertown, Mark (Julie) Kludt of Watertown, Jody Kludt of Mobridge, and Jolynn (Dan) Foley of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren, Lee (Jennifer) Kludt, Alex Kludt, Logan Kludt, Mikayla Kludt, Mallory (Ryan) Fitts, Maren Paulsen, Macy Kludt, Samantha Foley, and Nick Foley; two great-grandsons, Easton Kludt and Brody Kludt; brother, Robert (Queenda) Kludt of California; two sisters, Laura Jones of Huron, SD, and Gladys (Siegfred) Noack of Mitchell, SD; sisters-in-law, Delores Schaffer of Brandon, Leona Hanson of Sioux Falls, Luella Teveldal of Wessington Springs and Agnes Teveldal; brothers-in-law, Ivan Teveldal of Tulare and Ole (Liz) Teveldal of Wessington Springs; numerous nieces and nephews.
Doc was preceded in death by his wife Lila; his parents; three brothers, Calvin, Marvin, and Elmer Kludt; and sister, Hazel Johnson.
