Max Preston, age 93, of Huron, SD, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at SunQuest Healthcare Center. His funeral service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at American Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery including military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation with family present will be from noon till 1:00 pm before the service on Wednesday at the church. Max Carl Preston was born March 25, 1920 in Hitchcock, SD, to Gardner and Ethel (Meredith) Preston. He attended Hitchcock Elementary and High School. After he graduated in 1940, Max moved to Hot Springs, MT. Max joined the U.S. rmy Air Corp on August 21, 1942. He served as an Aircraft Riveter and reached the rank of Sargent before he was honorably discharged on February 5, 1946. Max stayed in Hot in Hitchcock, SD. Max ran Max's Body Shop for almost 50 years until he retired in 1995. Max married Wanda Doto at American Lutheran Church in Huron on November 17, 1973. The couple enjoyed traveling and square dancing. Max also was an avid coin collector and bowler. Max is survived by his wife of 39 years, Wanda Preston of Huron; three sons, Larry Preston of Silverthorne, CO, Conrad (Pam) Preston of Ottertail, MN, and Todd Preston of Kremmling, CO; one step-son, Jim (Marissa) Doto of Sartell, MN; one brother, Curtis (Beverley) Preston of Union, WA. His was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Grace Wulf.
