Mathilda Hofer, age 86, of 356 Wyoming Ave SW, Huron, died Thursday, January 26, 2006 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be at 1:30 PM Monday, January 30th at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale Sattgast officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening and Monday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday afternoon. Mathilda G. Hofer was born Mathilda G. Gross on November 30, 1919, to Eli and Elizabeth (Tschetter) Gross near Carpenter, SD. She attended rural school and later worked at the Marvin-Hughitt Hotel. On March 5, 1945, Mathilda married Jack Hofer in Huron. She has lived in Huron since that time. She was a foster parent for many children for a number of years and was employed at the Huron Nursing Home for 20 years. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and enjoyed baking. She is survived by 2 daughters, Charleen Hofer of Huron and Kathleen (David) Dennis of Hitchcock; 1 foster son, Ricky (Harriet) Hofer of Silver Spring, MD; 5 grandchildren, Michael (Theresa) Dennis of Sioux Falls, Eugene Dennis of Huron, Kendall (Molly) Dennis of Fargo, ND, Stephanie Hofer and Joshua Hofer; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 8, 1997, her parents, and 4 sisters. Pallbearers will be Michael Dennis, Kendall Dennis, Eugene Dennis, Ricky Hofer, Nate Kohlmeyer, and Marcus Kohlmeyer.
