MarYanna Heydon, 76, Wessington Springs, SD passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.
Visitation for MarYanna will begin at 4:00 pm, Sunday, November 27, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wessington Springs, followed by a Rosary Service at 5:30pm and a Scripture Service at 6pm. The family invites everyone to stay for fellowship and supper following the Scripture Service around 6:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9am, Monday, November 28 also at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wessington Springs, followed with rolls and coffee. Graveside Services for MarYanna will be held later that day at 3pm at Calvary Cemetery in Newcastle, NE, followed by a prayer service and time of fellowship in Newcastle. The family requests wearing of red for their mother's services as Cardinals and red were her favorites.
MarYanna was born April 11, 1940, in Ponca, NE to Ralph and Lucille (Brennan) Bridgford. She lived in Ponca until moving to Newcastle, NE at the age of four, where she was raised as an only child on the family farm with her cows and horses. She graduated from Newcastle High School before attending nursing school in Sioux City, NE. While at nursing school she became ill with rheumatic fever and returned home to recover. She enjoyed living at the family farm and working at the Ponca courthouse before marrying Clark Heydon on December 28, 1963. After they were married, MarYanna and Clark embarked on a wonderful life together in various communities in SD and NE, where he taught high school agricultural classes while MarYanna kept busy raising their three children, Shane, April and Marie. MarYanna also kept busy in each community teaching CCD for 31 years and working various jobs including teacher's aide, hospital cook and florist in three different locations.
MarYanna's life centered around her love for God, her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her great grand-children as well as the numerous friends they met in Wagner SD, Tyndall SD, Wessington Springs SD, Laurel NE, Martin SD, Hoven SD, Howard SD, Spearfish SD and finally Wessington Springs SD. MarYanna enjoyed each of the moves she made with Clark and the children because it was a new adventure and many lifelong friends were met in each location. After Clark retired from teaching, they moved to the Black Hills where Clark and MarYanna were kept busy as caretakers for the Carnegie Mansion for seven years. During retirement, MarYanna loved nothing more than to visit her children and grandchildren making several trips each year to watch her grandchilren's various activities. She loved the holidays with her family, playing hours of card games and cooking numerous feasts for the family to enjoy.
MarYanna is survived by her husband, Clark, Wessington Springs; children, Shane (Laurie Adkins) Deadwood, April (Klint) Willert, Brookings, Marie (Bill) Sevigny, Lake Elmo, MN; grandchildren, Blaine (Miranda) Heydon, Koel (Tyler) Sievers, Kesmond Willert, Kestlyn Willert, Gracie Sevigny, Madeline Sevigny; and great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Heydon and Kaydence Sievers. She was preceded in death by her parents.
