Obituary

Mary Engelhart Weiss, age 86, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral mass will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 29, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Donald Imming officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Saturday afternoon. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. The family can be reached at the home of Donna and Jim Anderson, 854 Arizona Ave. SW, Huron. Mary Weiss was born Mary Elizabeth Gearin on November 18, 1918, to James and Dorothy (Maloney) Gearin at Webster, SD. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Webster. In 1934, Mary married Hugo C. Engelhart at Webster. They lived at Webster, Lake Norden, Willow Lake, and moved to Huron in 1950. She worked at the Spudnut Caf for 3 years, and in 1954 began a 25-year career at Armour and Company working in the trim department, retiring in 1979. On November 20, 1976, Mary married Clarence Weiss at Huron. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Moose Lodge, William Reaves American Legion Post #7 Auxiliary, and a life member of the Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776 Auxiliary. Her family was always first and foremost in her life. Her many interests included reading, sewing, baking, cooking, dancing, traveling, playing cards, gardening, and a love for flowers and plants. She is survived by 10 children, Charles (Norma) Engelhart of Huron, Ronald (Nancey) Engelhart of Federal Way, WA, Duane (Marylyn) Engelhart of Devine, TX, Jan (David) Miner of Fairview, OR, Donna (James) Anderson of Huron, Lois (Harry) Bult of Luverne, MN, Steve (Cathy) Barringer of Sioux Falls, Blake (Cathy) Barringer of Pierre, Bob (Connie) Barringer of Rapid City, and Dennis (Phyllis) Barringer of St. Louis, MO; many grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence Weiss on April 25, 1991; her husband, Hugo Engelhart on November 22, 2004; an infant daughter, Elizabeth Engelhart; 1 son, Raymond Engelhart; 1 sister, Rosie Szana; 2 brothers, Bernard Gearin and Leonard Gearin; 1 brother-in-law, Vess Szana; and 1 sister-in-law, Rosemary Gearin.
