Obituary

Mary Waldner, age 84, of Pearl Creek Colony, rural Iroquois, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2015 at her home. Her funeral will be 2:30 pm Monday, February 16, 2015 at Pearl Creek Colony with burial in the Pearl Creek Colony Cemetery. Visitation with family present will start at 4 pm Sunday in her home at Pearl Creek Colony. Mary Waldner was born on December 8, 1930 to Joseph and Susanna (Wollman) Waldner at Huron Colony, Manitoba Canada. In 1949, she moved to Pearl Creek Colony, rural Iroquois, SD. Mary married Joseph Waldner on November 5, 1950. They were blessed with eleven children; Charlie (Kathy) of Watertown, Ernie (Linda) of Milbank, Frieda (George) of Pearl Creek Colony, Joseph (Kathy) of Worthing, Ronald of Huron, Robert (Pauline) of Watertown, Bennett (Susan) of Pearl Creek Colony, Mary Beth (David) of Watertown, Gladys (Leonard) of Castlewood, Susanna (Leonard) of Huron, Jeff (Sharon) of Milbank. Mary served many years as Kleineschul Ankela and was faithful to whatever duty the community gave her. She was a wonderful example for us all in her willingness and devotion to continue as long as she was able. She loved to knit slippers and gave them to friends and strangers alike. She loved to sing, especially Gott Meines Lebens Meister and Meine Seel Komm Zu Den Vunden. Mary was always ready with a Bible verse for every circumstance. With patience and God's help, she bore her burdens gracefully. In her latter days she loved it when we would read to her. Left to cherish Mary are her children; 33 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; her sisters, Susie, Emma, Sarah, Lena, Elizabeth, Anna, Esther, Martha, and Linda; her brothers, Darius and Daniel; many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph in 1997; three brothers; two sisters; and one grandson.
