Mary Jane Thompson, age 92, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.
Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 10 at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Black Hills National Cemetery on Friday, October 12 at 10:00 AM MST.
Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, October 9 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Mary Jane Horine was born November 23, 1925 to Charles and Inga Horine. She married Donald Thompson on January 19, 1947.
She attended Wilson, Lincoln and Jefferson elementary schools and a country school for the first eight grades and then attended Huron High School. She graduated on June 6, 1944 (D-Day).
Mary Jane was a lifelong member of the American Lutheran Church. She was active in circle, served on the altar guild and was a volunteer at The Christian Learning Center. Mary Jane was also a member of the William Reaves American Legion Post Number 7 Auxiliary. She held many offices including president of the Auxiliary.
Grateful for having shared her life are her five children, Cherie Egger (Joe) Omaha NE, Patricia Conners Brookings SD, Richard Thompson Huron, SD, Brian Thompson Brookings, SD and Karen Neuman (Garrett) Omaha NE, five grandchildren Patrick Egger (Suzanne), Jennifer Conners, Matthew Egger, Tim Conners, Eric Trepanier; four great-grandchildren; Sophia, Colin, Samuel and Beatrice Egger.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Thompson, her parents Charles and Inga Horine, sister and brother–in–law Doris and Don Johnson, son–in –law Artist Conners and niece GayLynn Johnson.
Mary Jane spent the last four years of her life at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. She enjoyed her life there and all the activities in which she participated. The family expresses special thanks to the staff for the attentive care she was given. You made her feel loved.
