Mary Thomas, age 100, of Huron, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 4-6 PM with a Rosary and Scripture Service to begin at 5:15 PM at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the mass on Thursday at the church.
Mary Vincentia Davis was born on December 11, 1921 to parents Anthony and Ellen (McLain) Davis in Opheim, Montana. She was baptized on in May 1922 in Glentana, Montana. Mary's family moved to the Yale area where she graduated from Yale High School in 1939. Mary went to California and worked at an aircraft factory for the war effort.
Mary married Francis E. Thomas, Sr. on November 6, 1943 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Huron. To this union, four children were born, Mary Dianne, Francis Edward, Jr., Borden and Lanny. Mary and Frank farmed in Beadle County for many years.
Mary was devout in her Catholic faith. She was a CCE teacher for several years, Altar Society Officer, Catholic Daughters Officer and member, St. Francis Shop founder and volunteer. She enjoyed playing cards in the Sojourners Whist Card Club where she was a champion. Helping and volunteering at Huron Nursing Home/SunQuest Healthcare Center was also a passion of hers.
Mary is survived by her children; Mary Dianne Dixon of Wisner, NE; Francis (Donna Thompson) Edward Thomas, Jr. of Huron; Borden (Nancy) Thomas of Billings, MT; and Lanny Thomas of Huron; 10 grandchildren, Chad (Lisa) Dixon, Jacqueline (Tom) Harder, Kari (Mike) Moeller, Ashley (Dustin) Feyerherm, Melissa (Dan) Vetsch, Holli Rodriguez, Brady (Jessica) Thomas, Sarah (Cody) Schulke, Matthew (Ashley Anna) Thomas, and Kelly Thomas; 20 great-grandchildren: 11 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ann Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis in 2000; her son-in-law Jack Dixon; three brothers, James (Clara), Joe (Hazel), John (Gladys), her sister Kathryn; her parents-in-law, George and Ada Thomas; her brothers-in-law, Marion, Dick (Harriette), Bill (Elsey), Jim (Audrey), Merlyn (Ruth) and George.
