Mary Micheel, age 70, of 1500 3rd St. SW, Huron, SD, died Saturday, September 20, 2008, after a lenghty illness, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 25, at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 24, from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mary Micheel was born Mary Lee Weber on March 11, 1938, to Carl and Minnie (Engel) Weber at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Huron, SD. She attended Virgil Elementary School in Virgil, SD, until 1943, at which time she started attending school in Huron.
In 1954, Mary married Gordon Bogh in Huron. In 1959, she entered the U.S. Army and was in the Medical Corp stationed at Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Following her discharge from the military she worked at St. Lukes Hospital in So. St. Paul, MN; State School in Redfield, SD; several nursing homes; and the Bachlor Ranch in Valentine, NE, for 16 years.
In 1962, Mary married Jim Hicks.
In 1987, she married Don Micheel.
Among her many interests were fishing, flower gardening, arranging artificial flowers into bouquets, and her pets.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Twila (Rick) Hartford of Hickory, NC; 2 sons, Michael (Marlo) Bogh of Huron, and Carl (Darlene) Hicks of Huron; 14 grandchildren, Michael Lee (Jennifer) Bogh, Dean (Peggy) Taylor, Marc (Angie) Taylor, Alex (Nicole) Taylor, Sean (Tasmah) Taylor, Stacey (John) Downey, Kelly Hartford, Christopher Fretwell, Jeff Hohndorf, Asheley Moctezuma, Amy Hicks, Dylan Hicks, Noel Hicks, and Michele Hicks; 11 great grandchildren, Allen Bogh, Jayden Bogh, Monte Bogh, Gage Taylor, Matison Taylor, Lauden Taylor, Kayla Taylor, Tanir Taylor, Spence Taylor, Jacoby Taylor, and Kenzington Taylor; 1 brother, Kenneth (Pat) Weber of Wolsey; 3 sisters, Ruby Schmidtgall of Huron, Inez Grace of Huron, and Millie Timm of Huron; special friend, Jim Waldner of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents; 3 brothers, Ivan Weber, Elmer Weber, and George Weber; 1 grandson, Joey Hicks; 4 brothers-in-law, Bill Schmidtgall, Leo Schmidtgall, Irl Grace, and Floyd Timm; and 1 sister-in-law, Phyllis Weber.
