Mary Jean Maas, age 78, of 580 Frank Ave SE, Huron, died Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, November 3rd at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dan Domke officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM or one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday afternoon. Mary Jean Maas was born Mary Jean Walz on April 19, 1929, to Christopher A. and Ella A. (Lemke) Walz at rural Yale, SD. She attended Yale Public School. On July 25, 1954, Mary Jean married Wilbur A. Maas at Pipestone, MN. After her marriage they made their home in Huron where she has lived since that time. She was employed at the Airport Caf, Circle K Caf, Bales Truck Stop Caf and Coney Island Caf. Mary Jean loved animals all her life especially her puppies and kitties. Recently she was attending the Huron Adult Day Care Center. She is survived by her husband Wilbur of Huron; 6 children, Myra (Chuck) Gascoigne of Huron, Darwin (Michelle) Maas of Huron, Steve Maas of Sioux Falls, Monica (Ron) Blachford of De Smet, Randy Maas of Sioux Falls and Brian (Carla) Maas of Fishers, IN; 13 grandchildren, Angela (Ray) Thuestad, Heidi Gascoigne, Hilary Robey, Erik (Angie) Gascoigne, Shane Gascoigne, Ehren Maas, Amy Maas, Megan Maas, Michael Maas, Peter Maas, Laura Maas, Alec Maas and Matthew Maas; and 4 great grandchildren, Adam Thuestad, Josh Thuestad, Ender Robey and Katelyn Gascoigne. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, LuVern Walz, Alvin Walz and Marvin in infancy, 2 sisters, Alva and Aline in infancy and 1 sister-in-law, Mary Alice Walz.
