Mary E. Kuhns, age 91, of Huron, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. A private graveside service will be held at St. Martin's Cemetery at a later date.

Mary Ellen Swanson was born on September 14, 1929 to parents Roy and Julia (Konshak) Swanson in Huron. She attended St. Teresa's Catholic School and Huron High School, graduating in 1947.

Mary worked at Woolworth's, Starlight Outdoor Theater and State Theater and Huron Regional Medical Center where she retired from in 1994. Mary also worked many years at the Beef Palace during the South Dakota State Fair.

She enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers, sewing, handiwork and crafts as well as working in her yard and find-a-word puzzles. Mary was involved in many organizations including Girl Scouts, NSCD Extension, and the Altar Society at St. Martin's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children, daughter Beverly (Michael) Maguire of Horicon, WI and their children and grandchildren, Amy Furlong--Grace, Matthew (Kara) Maguire; daughter Barbara Small of Huron and her children and grandchildren, Jason (Shannan) Small --Trevor, Alec, Christian (Kelsey), Julie Schutt—Lincoln, Holton; John (Heidi) Small – Troy, Taylor; Joe Small – Mason, Jamysson, Hudsyn; Jodi Small (Rob James) – Oscar, Alexis; Jamie (Chris) Buckley – Sam, Emily; son Don (Patti) Kuhns of Huron and their children and grandchildren, Cammy (Myron) – Catlin (Eric) and Georgia, Jaden (Hailey) and Liam, Jerret (Ashley), Kimberly – Jordan and Isobella; Traci (Dennis) Clemens – Lilly and Willow; Sara (Jereme) Kempf – Daxtin and Enslee; son David (Sandra) Kuhns of Huron and their children and grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Cornelisen – Tor and Matias; Kristen (Charlie) Kuhn – Ethan, Emmaline, and Juliet Mary; siblings, Margaret Greschke of Huron, Lyle (Janet) Swanson of Huron, Rich (Sherry) Swanson of Huron, and Jim Swanson of Janesville, WI; and sister-in-law Phyllis Swanson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Roy (Sonny) Swanson, Thomas Swanson, and William Swanson; brother-in-law, Ed Greschke; sisters-in-law, Betty Swanson and Helen Swanson; son-in-law, Craig Small; 2 grandchildren, Mary Ann Maguire and Mary Helen Small, and 4 great-grandchildren.
